About Michileen Marie
Michileen Marie is a storyteller. She started to find movement in her stories through acting, dance, and playwriting. She received a Bachelor of Science from Santa Clara University in Psychology and Theatre Arts. She continued to study the structure of stories, specifically how they were often built to box in female characters. This kindled a passion for subverting these tropes and expectations. She pursued this interest into a Master's of Liberal Arts at Stanford University, where she wrote her final thesis on the theatrical depiction of female characters post-World War II.
In her fiction, Michileen uses the flexibility of the dark magic realism genre to push the boundaries of female characters. With themes of death, identity, and family, she writes stories with banter and complicated romance that illuminate our fears or at least make the dark more fun.
